Crorey was kind enough to share this awesome blog with me. This page, along with Danielle’s recommendations, proved to be very helpful indeed! As a way of expressing my gratitude, I figured I would give a quick synopsis of our 4-day trip to add a more modern perspective, although a lot of the original info included here circa 2015 is still relevant and worth checking out, in my opinion.

The following is really just the notables, what I would recommend to others traveling to NOLA. My boyfriend Kyle and I went for 4 nights, and we certainly ate our way around a number of decent restaurants (e.g., Creole House, Lucy’s Surfer Bar, Mulate’s, French Toast, Ruby Slipper, Two Chicks Cafe, Cafe Beignet) but I’ll elaborate on our favorites, food-wise.

Carmo on Julia Street
- really tasty raw fish options (we ordered ceviche and poke bowls), artsy vibes, focus on fresh fish and Peruvian and Cuban dishes. Ran into a local couple who said this is a go-to dinner spot for them, especially when friends that are vegetarian/pescatarian from out of town are visiting

Cochon on Magazine Street
- this was on Danielle’s list and I’m so glad we made it. The Google reviews speak for themselves, and I recommend making a reservation. We ordered cocktails and the rabbit/dumpling stew + the wood fired redfish. Amazing.

Pêche Seafood Grill on Magazine Street
- we did raw oysters and cocktails as a little happy hour before dinner at Cochon. I’d definitely go back here for dinner sometime, also they have a big selection from their raw bar menu.

Killer PoBoys on Dauphine Street
- this was a rec from our Lyft driver actually. Great lunch spot. Modern spin/Asian influenced poboys, good vegetarian options (we got a Thai BBQ tofu and grilled cauliflower & kale although I’d like to try the grilled gulf shrimp if we ever go back)

Activities (i.e., Walking, Drinking and Music)
- Really enjoyed City Park, the sculpture garden and botanical garden
- Caught good views of the city at the Pontchartrain and Higgins rooftop bars, located within the hotels. (Higgins has a great view of the WW2 Museum sculpture as well, beautiful and lit up at night)
- Pim’s Cup at the Napoleon House
- Loaded Bloody Mary at Daisy Dukes complete with steamed crawfish on top (I guess they’re bottomless if you eat food there, I got mine to go)
- Lots of walking/exploring/people watching around the French Quarter.
- Nightlife on Frenchmen Street for a more “local” scene and sooo much music, we stuck to the bars that didn’t charge cover, so I’d still like to get to the Spotted Cat someday
- Saw a performance from the house band at Preservation Hall, supreme talent in an intimate and historical venue

Wonderful trip overall and thanks to Crorey for sharing his and Danielle’s hot tips and recommendations!
-Madeleine from Buffalo, NY
Madeleinenoreply@blogger.com
